Advancing climate diplomacy, environmental governance and youth leadership across Canada.
In 2024, HATOF Foundation strengthened its engagement in Canada through climate diplomacy, international environmental negotiations, strategic institutional dialogue and biodiversity governance. From Toronto to Ottawa and Montreal, HATOF contributed experience in climate finance, youth leadership, plastic pollution and benefit-sharing from digital sequence information.
Dr Samuel Dotse participated in the two-day summit themed “Harnessing the gains of Global Diplomacy and Peaceful Coexistence: The role of International Organizations.” His presentation on climate change and international resource mobilization explored climate finance negotiations, donor coordination and innovative financing.
HATOF participated in the fourth session of the Intergovernmental Negotiating Committee developing an international legally binding instrument on plastic pollution, including in the marine environment. HATOF was represented by Dr Samuel Dotse, MaryJane Enchill and its Senior Programmes, Partnerships & Climate Change Officer.
At the invitation of the Environment Division, HATOF explored strategic partnerships and collaboration around its Climate and Biodiversity Youth Fellowship. The engagement focused on opportunities to empower young professionals in international environmental policymaking and address climate change and biodiversity loss.
Represented by Dr Samuel Dotse, HATOF joined the second meeting of the Ad Hoc Open-ended Working Group on benefit-sharing from Digital Sequence Information on Genetic Resources. Delegates developed recommendations on contributions from commercial users and laid groundwork for the COP16 multilateral mechanism and the Cali Fund.
HATOF’s work in North America builds relationships that connect African expertise, emerging environmental leaders and international decision-making.
